Our Customer was in a tricky situation. He needed to make a hitch tube extension so he could move his caravan on a very tight angle. Shall we say he had to turn it on a dime. He was renting a bobcat for the weekend and needed to have the custom hitch tube made in a day. We had success!
Hitch Tube Extension
Hitch tube, or also commonly known as receiver tube, is the outer piece of square steel that is used in hauling trailers, RVs and caravans and other vehicles. Tusker Metals, in Temecula, supplies and sells the hitch tube in 1 foot increments. The outside dimension of hitch tube is 2.53 x 2.53 x .238 and fits perfectly into the standard “hitch”.
Where He Began
We used a one foot piece of hitch tube and drilled 5.8″ holes at either end through the width of the tube. Then we drilled 1/2 inch holes every two inches, again through the width of the tube. The bucket of the bobcat had pre-drilled half inch holes, so our customer was able to adjust the length of the custom hitch tube to increase or decrease his turning radius.
By adjusting the custom hitch tube extension in our out, he was able to increase or decrease the turning ratius of the bobcat. Therefore beign able to have amazing control of the RV.
As you can see he attached the custom hitch tube reciver tube to the edge of the bobcat.
Tusker Metals, located off the 15 freeway in Temecual, can offer standard hitch tube or receiver tube by the foot, or if you need custom fabricaton, like our wonderful customer featured in this post, we can accomodate almost every inquiry. We welcome your comments below
